We're looking for a Photonic Design Engineer with hands-on experience in integrated photonics to design, simulate, and deliver manufacturable photonic circuits. Our client is a European deep-technology company developing next-generation computing hardware based on advanced photonic technologies. Their mission is to rethink how data is processed by leveraging light-based architectures to achieve significantly higher performance and energy efficiency than traditional electronic systems.
Their team brings together experts in physics, semiconductor engineering, computer architecture, and software to build scalable solutions for demanding applications such as artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and real-time data processing.
What you'll do:
  • Design and optimize photonic components (waveguides, MMIs, couplers, filters)
  • Run simulations (EME, FDTD, FEM) and validate performance
  • Work with foundry PDKs and ensure DRC compliance
  • Build programmatic layouts and contribute to code reviews
What we're looking for:
  • Has completed multiple tape outs
  • Has worked with various photonics foundries
  • Worked in a commercial photonic design team
  • Multiple tape-outs and foundry experience
  • Experience with tools like Lumerical, IPKISS, GDSFactory, KLayout (or similar)
Education:
  • At least a Bachelors degree in Physics, Computer Science or any other relevant field
  • Preferred Masters degree in a relevant field
  • Bonus+ PhD in Photonics
Location:
  • Full time onsite in Munich, Germany
